Bachelor of Science in Public Management and Development

The Bachelor of Science in Public Management and Development is a four-year degree programme that prepares students for managerial and administrative positions in public, private, and non-profit organisations. The programme provides a foundation in public management, planning, development, and public policy processes.

The curriculum covers public management, public policy formulation, development planning, leadership and ethics, human resource management, public finance, project management, statistics and analysis, economics, urban planning, research methods, e-government, and public sector reform.

Teaching combines lectures, case studies, seminars, industrial attachment, and a research project. Students develop analytical and problem-solving skills for public service delivery. The programme emphasises practical tools for effective public management including research, statistics, and policy analysis.

Graduates pursue careers as public administrators, development officers, policy analysts, project managers, county government officers, programme coordinators, and NGO managers. Opportunities exist in county governments, national government, development agencies, NGOs, and international organisations.

The programme is offered at JKUAT, a public university, and KCA University, a private institution. Admission requires a KCSE mean grade of C+ with C in Mathematics and English. JKUAT runs the programme for four academic years fast-tracked through a trimester process.

Accreditation is provided by the Commission for University Education (CUE). Annual tuition is approximately KES 175,950 at JKUAT based on KUCCPS data.
