The curriculum covers conflict theory, peace studies, negotiation and mediation, humanitarian assistance, disaster management, international relations, human rights, governance, peacebuilding, religion and conflict, gender and conflict, security studies, research methodology, and project management.
Students develop skills in conflict analysis, negotiation, mediation, peacebuilding, humanitarian response, crisis management, research, policy analysis, and community engagement.
Graduates pursue careers as conflict resolution officers, peacebuilding specialists, mediation officers, humanitarian aid workers, project coordinators, policy analysts, community development officers, and diplomacy officers. They find employment in NGOs, government departments, international organisations, peacebuilding agencies, humanitarian organisations, and community-based organisations.
The programme is offered at MMUST (public, KES 152,000 per year) at the main campus in Kakamega County and Bungoma Campus. MMUST is a public university established in 2002 and is known for its pioneering School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance. The programme is offered on a full-time basis with distance learning options available.
Accreditation is provided by the Commission for University Education (CUE), the statutory body responsible for quality assurance and regulation of university education in Kenya. Admission requires a KCSE mean grade of C+ (Plus) with at least C (Plain) in English or Kiswahili.
